When is the best time to go to Hawaii?

If two seasons stand out, the Hawaiian archipelago is welcoming and pleasant all year round.

Some travelers may prefer to travel to Hawaii during the winter, from December to February. A winter that is not really a winter, as temperatures remain very pleasant but with more rain than in summer. It is also the best time for surfers. In fact, it is possible to attend the most prestigious surfing competitions, such as the Triple Crown of Surfing or the Eddie Aikau Memorial. However, these competitions only take place when the waves exceed 12 meters high (and sometimes are canceled)!

Summer, from May to October, is the right time to enjoy the sun and the beach in Hawaii! If you are wondering when to go to Hawaii to attend festivals, summer is certainly the season for you. If you go in June, do not miss the Molokaʻi Ka Hula Piko: a hula festival, the traditional Hawaiian dance. In August, ukulele fans will enjoy the Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival. And in September, the Aloha Festivals, which take place on all islands, are certainly the culmination of all these summer festivities!

Finally, in July and August, underwater visibility is perfect, and with calmer seas than in winter, it is the right time to explore Hawaii's magnificent underwater world.

Hawaii's Summer Climate

Also known as "kau" in the archipelago, summer extends from May to early October in Hawaii. This is the hottest and sunniest season. The weather is particularly beautiful on the western coasts, such as in Honolulu or Kahului, on the island of Maui. Conversely, the coasts located in the northeast are much less sunny. Moreover, they experience regular showers during this period. However, be aware that summer is also hurricane season in Hawaii, although they remain rare.

Hawaii's Winter Climate

Known as "hooilo" in Hawaii, winter is the coolest and wettest season. Nevertheless, it's nothing like our winter: temperatures are cooler than in summer but generally do not drop below 20°C (68°F) .

The climate in Hawaii during this period, especially during the rainy season between November and January, is characterized by frequent and heavy rainfall. The weather is often cloudy, although the sun makes an appearance every day.

Finally, in winter, there may be some brief tropical storms.
