When is the best time to go to Menorca?

The best time to go to Minorca extends from April to December, but the months between June and September offer an ideal climate to make the most of it. Indeed, the island, being more ventilated than its neighbors thanks to its low relief, summer offers ideal temperatures and there is no suffering from the heat. Minorca enjoys more than 300 days of sunshine per year, nearly half of which are between May and September, comparable data to those of Marseille!

To choose your vacation dates, first identify the activities you want to do on the spot:

  • For swimming on one of the 70 fine sandy beaches, snorkeling or exploring the coves that can be reached by boat, prefer the months from June to October, when water temperatures are at their highest.
  • For hiking, for example on the Cami de Cavalls which goes around the island, the good season is longer: from March to November. The sun is most often shining and the landscapes are magnificent.
  • For a cultural stay, only the months of January and February should be avoided, as it is cool and humid. The rest of the year, museums, fairs, markets, and other events will amaze you. Do not miss, for example, the superb history museum of Mahon which traces the life of Minorca from prehistory to today.

When to go to Minorca to avoid the crowds? The very high tourist season is in full swing in August and September. Prices soar, accommodations are crowded, and it is essential to make your reservations well in advance. June and July are quieter, but if you really want to be undisturbed, opt for May or October. In spring, the countryside is covered with flowers in enchanting colors, the atmosphere is mild, and swimming is entirely possible. In autumn, summer lingers on and the sea is warmer than the air, a real delight!

Climate and Weather on the island of Minorca

Minorca is part of the Balearic Islands and is located northeast of Majorca. The archipelago is situated in the Mediterranean Sea and belongs to Spain. It is recognized as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO and Minorca is the most well-preserved island in the area.

The climate of Minorca is Mediterranean with hot summers, which favors almost perfect weather conditions for much of the year.

The highest point on the island is Monte Toro, which reaches an altitude of 357 meters above sea level. This low relief does not stop the tramuntana, a strong, cold, dry wind that comes from the north. It usually blows for several days in a row, especially in winter, between December and February.
